Assam: Partha Sarathi Mahanta’s ‘Lachit ( The Warrior)’ Among Official Selections for 54th IFFI, 2023

NEW DELHI: The Indian Panorama has announced its official selection of 20 non-feature films and 25 feature films for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2023 and Lachit (The Warrior) by Partha Sarathi Mahanta has made it to this list. Lachit (The Warrior) is among the 20 Non-Feature Films selected in the Indian Panorama 2023. The selected films will be showcased at the 54th IFFI to be held from 20th - 28th November 2023 in Goa.

The aim of the Indian Panorama, organized by the National Film Development Corporation, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, is to select the feature and non-feature films of cinematic, thematic and aesthetic excellence in accordance with the conditions and procedures in the said regulations of Indian Panorama. The selection process is conducted by eminent personalities from the world of cinema from across India comprising a total of twelve Jury members for feature films and six Jury members for non-feature films led by the respective chairpersons. Exercising their individual expertise, the eminent jury panels contribute evenly to the consensus that leads to the selection of Indian Panorama films of respective categories.

Apart from Lachit (The Warrior) by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Baruar Xongxar by Utpal Borpujari and Kathabor by Keshar Jyoti Das has also been selected in the Non- Feature Films category of the IFFI 2023. Life In Loom by Edmond Ranson which is in multiple languages, ie, Hindi, Tamil,Assamese, Bengali and English, has also made it to the list.

Previously, Lachit (The Warrior) an animated short biopic film based on the life and achievements of the great Ahom General of Assam- Lachit Barphukan, had won the Best Animation Film award in the prestigious 7th Chambal International Film Festival.

Indian Panorama was introduced in 1978 as part of IFFI to promote Indian Films along with India's rich culture and heritage with the help of cinematic art. it been completely devoted to showcasing the best Indian films of the year. The selected films for the Indian Panorama section, with an aim for the promotion of film art, will also be screened for non-profit screening in international film festivals in India and abroad, Indian Film Weeks held under Bilateral Cultural Exchange Programmes and Specialized Indian Film Festivals outside cultural exchange protocols, and special Indian Panorama festivals in India.
