New Delhi: The biographical crime drama -- Gangubai Kathiawadi -- starring Alia Bhatt is scheduled to release on February 25, but it seems that the release date could be postpone now as the family of Gangubai has sought a stay on the film's release.

Interestingly, the film has already gained much attention after its songs were released earlier and now trailer video has been served infront of the masses that brings out the excellent acting talents of Alia Bhatt, who played the lead role. It wouldn't be wrong to say that fans across the country are eagerly for the film to release.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is an adaptation of the book titled 'Mafia Queen of Mumbai' written by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film is based on the story of one of the women in the book named Gangubai Kathiawadi, a real life-sex worker, who rose into political power in later part of her life.

However, ahead of the film release, a twist has knocked the film maker's door as the adopted family members Gangubai claimed that she was not a prostitute.

The film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali has portrayed Gangubai as a prostitute, which the family has refused to accept it and demanded a stay on the release of the film.

The family has sent court notices to author Sanjay Zaidi and charges of defamation have also been levied against the makers and actors of the film including Alia Bhatt.

Advocate Narendra Dubey, on behalf of the Gangubai's children, stated that no children would like their mother to be portrayed as a prostitute and even the son of a prostitute won't like that.

He further asserted that just for the sake of money, one cannot do such assassination of someone's character. Dubey also added that the matter is not about mother and son but it's about the dignity of a woman, as no woman would appreciate being portrayed in such nudity and obscene role.

The lawyer further claims that Gangubai was a social worker, who fought for the rights of prostitutes. The renowned political leader of the country like Morarji Desai, Jawahar Lal Nehru, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee used to visit her place as she was the most known face in Kamathipura during that period.

He also informed that the family approached the court after the first promo video of the film in 2020 and the trial court confirmed the adoption but the high court has asked for proof of adoption.

Meanwhile, the case seeking a stay on the film's release is currently pending in the Supreme Court (SC).

The film is set for the world premiere at Berlin International Film Festival and the film's lead character Alia Bhatt is in Berlin at present.
