NEW DELHI: The recently released historical thriller 'The Kashmir Flies' directed by Vivek Agnihotri has been making headlines since its release on 11 March.
It has become the topic of controversy for various reasons mainly due to its portrayal of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir insurgency in the early 1990s and late 1980s.
With the emerging popularity of the movie, the threat to its director has become a matter of concern for the centre as the film depicts sensational coverage of Kashmir killings in the 1990s.
The filmmaker has also received threatening messages on various social media platforms for the film which has already crossed Rupees 100 crore in box office collection.
In view of this Y-category security has been provided to Vivek Agnihotri on the basis of the insight of threat associated with the film's director who is the man behind the entire concept and its depiction.
According to sources Agnihotri will be given the security cover of 8 officers under the Y-category security. The eight officers will include police personnel and two commandos.
The officials of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will accompany Agnihotri in different places across the country ensuring his safety.
The Kashmir Files shows how the Islamic extremist in Jammu & Kashmir forced the Kashmiri Pandits to leave their own places at the time of the crisis.
It outlines the torture faced by the Kashmiri Pandit community in the Valley by the start of the 1990s when the terrorist group was involved in brutal killings.
The movie has been praised by many including top political leaders in India for showing the closure picture of the Kashmiri Pandit's truth which was never before brought to light through any other film.
Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the director and his portrayal of the truth in 'The Kashmir Files.'
Notably, the film has received a great push from the centre as well as from different BJP ruling states where it has been made tax-free to watch in cinema halls.
