MUMBAI: The much-anticipated sports drama 'Jersey' directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur which was earlier scheduled to release on Thursday 14 April now has been postponed.

The release date of the film is pushed to next week i.e. on 22 April as informed by the film producer Aman Gill on Monday 11 April.

He said the Jersey team has put their tears and sweat into the film and would like if it reaches out to the audience in the wildest possible way.

Jersey is presented by Allu Arvind and produced by Gill, Dil Raju, Vamsi and S Naga under Yash Raj Films in association with Geetha Arts and Pen India Limited.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh also took to Twitter to announce the film's 5th postponement which was decided by stakeholders late on Sunday night.

The film which is a Hindi remake of the award-winning Telugu blockbuster in 2019 with the same title has seen several postponements since its announcement in 2020.

Notably, this is the fifth time that the Shahid Kapoor starrer has been rescheduled and this time through the postponement the makers avoided the box office clash with KGF: Chapter 2 directed by Prashant Neel starring superstar Yash.

It has also avoided the major clash with 'Beast' directed by Nelson Dilipkumar starring Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay which is scheduled to release this week along with KGF 2.

Earlier, 31 December 2021 was selected for the film's release which was postponed due to the major surge in the COVID-19 positive cases just a few days ahead of the release and for concern over the newly emerging Omicron variant at that time.

Jersey was first scheduled to hit big screens in August 2020 and at that time it was delayed due to the global pandemic COVID-19 affecting people worldwide.

Then the film was about to release on the occasion of Diwali 2021 but it was again postponed for the third time to 31st December.
