New Delhi: The 94th Academy Awards/Oscar which was held on Sunday this year at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California paid a tribute to artists and filmmakers of the global film industry who died last year.
Stars like Sidney Poitier, Betty White, and Ivan Reitman received emotional tributes at the Oscars on Sunday night before the opening of the annual 'In Memoriam' segment.
However, the same section did not pay its tribute to late Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar and actor Dilip Kumar. Not only this, their names too were not even mentioned in the segment.
Dilip Kumar had left the world on July 7 last year, while Lata Mangeshkar passed on February 6, 2022. Both personalities had recently received an emotional obituary at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) earlier this month.
Following this, social media users were quite furious and expressed their anger and disappointment.
''The amazing world-record-setting #LataMangeshkar (who passed away from Covid) sang more songs for more movies than shown in all Oscars combined. Yet, the #Oscars2022 #Inmemoriam did not see it fit to honor her even with a mention. Sometimes, I think, colonialism still lives on...,'' a Twitter user wrote expressing her disappointment.
There is a lot of anger on social media among the fans of Lata Mangeshkar. Fans are giving different reactions by tweeting similarly. Significantly, on February 6 this year, Lata Mangeshkar died at the age of 92.
Earlier, the Oscars had featured late actors- Irrfan Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput, and Rishi Kapoor in its In Memoriam section in previous years.
