NEW DELHI: The Tamil film industry bids a tearful farewell to the versatile actor and director, G Marimuthu, who breathed his last on September 8, 2023. The 58-year-old artist, who had recently garnered acclaim for his role in Rajinikanth's blockbuster 'Jailer,' succumbed to a sudden heart attack. This unexpected demise sent shockwaves through the industry and left fans and colleagues grieving.

Marimuthu's final moments were spent doing what he loved most, dubbing for his television show, 'Ethir Neechal,' when tragedy struck. Around 8:30 am, he collapsed during the dubbing session and was swiftly rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, medical efforts could not revive him, and he was declared dead.

The esteemed actor is survived by his wife, Backiyalakshmi, and their two children, Akilan and Ishwarya.

G Marimuthu's journey in the world of cinema is a testament to his dedication and passion for the craft. He commenced his career as an assistant director and gradually carved his niche as an actor of immense talent. His first on-screen appearance was in the 1999 Ajith-starrer 'Vaali,' where he played a supporting role.

Over the years, Marimuthu became a sought-after character actor, gracing many notable projects, including 'Tamil Rockerz,' 'Vada Chennai,' 'Yuddham Sei,' 'Kodi,' 'Bairavaa,' 'Kadaikutty Singam,' 'Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum,' and even made an appearance in the Hindi film 'Atrangi Re' in 2021.

In 2008, Marimuthu took a step further and made his directorial debut with 'Kannum Kannum,' a film in which he also contributed as a writer for the script, screenplay, and dialogues. This marked his prowess not only in front of the camera but also behind it.

However, it was his television show, 'Ethirneechal,' that truly catapulted him to household fame. His portrayal of 'Aadhimuthu Gunasekaran' in the series endeared him to audiences across Tamil Nadu.

The passing of G Marimuthu leaves an irreplaceable void in the world of Indian cinema. His contributions as both an actor and director have left an indelible mark, and his sudden departure is a poignant loss for fans and the industry alike. Tamil cinema will forever remember this talented artist who brought characters to life on the big and small screens with his exceptional skills.
