The 16 artists from Nagaland who were selected to be part of the 7th edition of International Handshake Concert at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia performed at the '150 years of celebrating Mahatma' organised by the High Commission of India Kuala Lumpur in partnership with Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) at the Grand Hall, CUCMS on October 2, 2019.
In the 15-minute musical performance allotted to Rattle and Hum Music Society, the artists presented 3 music pieces including the English hymn – Abide With Me, one of the favourite songs of Mahatma Gandhi, Jai Ho - an upbeat song of victory celebrating his victorious life and a piano piece (specially arranged by accomplished pianist, Zubeni Kikon) with a solo dance act as a tribute to the great soul.
These acts produced by Rattle and Hum Music Society were powered by the Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), YRS, Government of Nagaland.
During the observation of '150 years of Mahatma', Stefen Priesner, UN Resident Coordinator gave a special address while Mridul Kumar, High Commissioner of India to Malaysia also addressed the gathering. Earlier, Tan Shri Dr. R.Palan, Pro Chancellor of CUCMS gave the welcome remarks.
Other highlights included 'Mahatma', a Kathak Dance Repertoire by NSCBICC Kathak teacher and students and a rendition of song 'Sabarmati Ke Sant Tune Kar Diya Kamal' by Dr. Hardev Kaur and group. There was also screening of 'Vaishnava Jana To', a song commissioned by Ministry of External Affairs, India.
The Handshake Concert will be held on October 4, 2019 at KL City Hall, Auditorium, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) as part of the ongoing Diversecity, Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival 2019 where Rattle and Hum Music Society will showcase a one hour show.
