10 rooms gutted in fire in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: A major fire gutted 10 rented rooms in the Noonmati area here on Sunday night.

Sources said that the fire broke out at the residence of a teacher of the Noonmati Refinery High School, one Golelur Ali. The fire soon spread to six rooms that were rented out by Ali. Subsequently, another four rented rooms owned by a neighbour named Siddique Ali also caught fire. The flames were fuelled by an LPG cylinder that exploded.

Six fire tenders managed to douse the fire after lengthy efforts, the sources said.

Officials present at the scene informed that the damage caused by the fire is estimated to run into several lakhs of rupees.
