GUWAHATI: Even though there has been a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in the city, 1,147 beds are still vacant at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) as of Saturday morning.

According to GMCH Superintendent of GMCH Dr Abhijit Sarma, 326 beds of the hospital are occupied by COVID-19 patients, along with 23 Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and Palliative Care Units (PCUs).

There are 82 COVID-19 patients in the General Ward of the GMCH, he said, adding that 45 patients opted for home isolation after testing positive on Friday.

Dr Sarma said that 990 vaccination booster doses have been given so far at the GMCH to frontline workers and comorbid senior citizens. Amidst the Magh Bihu celebrations, 80 booster doses were given at the GMCH on Friday, he said.

He said that there has been no change in the hotspot areas of the city and these still remain Basisthapur, Chandmari, Lachit Nagar and Rajgarh.
