GUWAHATI: Diwali and Kali Puja festivities took their toll on Monday and Tuesday last, with as many as 160 road traffic accidents and eight burn cases being recorded in various parts of the State.
The maximum of 90 road traffic accident cases occurred on Monday, and the remaining 70 on Tuesday. On the other hand, five of the burn cases - one each in Kamrup (M), Hailakandi, Karimganj, Majuli and Sivasagar - occurred on Monday, while the remaining three cases - one each in Dibrugarh, Golaghat and Jorhat - occurred on Tuesday.
The Kamrup district registered the maximum number of 11 road traffic accidents on Monday, followed by the Sonitpur district with 10 cases. Other districts with noteworthy numbers of road traffic accidents on Monday included Nalbari (eight), Kamrup Metro (six), Dhemaji (six), Dhubri (five), Golaghat (five), Morigaon (five), Cachar (four) and Lakhimpur (four).
Similarly, ten more cases of road traffic accidents were registered in the Sonitpur district on Tuesday. Other districts which registered multiple road traffic accidents on that day included Baksa (eight), Nagaon (six), Dhemaji (four), Jorhat (four), Kamrup Metro (four), Karbi Anglong (four), Lakhimpur (three), Majuli (three), Cachar (three), Morigaon (three) and Udalguri (three).
It may be mentioned that a total of 28 incidents of fire were reported across the State during Diwali, including four in the city.
