GUWAHATI: During the period from January 2021 to October 2021, the number of accidents that occurred in Assam is 6,056. In these accidents, total 2,446 people lost their lives.
According to data of the State Transport Department, during the same period, in Kamrup (metro) a total of 621 accidents took place and 194 fatalities were recorded. On the other hand, from January 2021 to September 2021, in Assam total 1,43,543 vehicles were registered. During the same period, in Kamrup (metro) total 29,710 vehicles were registered. Meanwhile, in the last three years (2019-21), total 10,416 licenses were suspended.
Assistant Transport Commissioner and Kamrup (Metro) District Transport Officer (R&L) Gautam Das, "Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stressed implementing a strict checking procedure on the streets of Assam to prevent road accidents. The State Transport Department will be observing 2022 as accident-free Assam year. There will be no compromise on road safety and all steps will be taken to strictly enforce traffic rules."
