GUWAHATI: The Commissionerate of Labour in Assam announced on Tuesday that as many as 300 children have been rescued from illegal labour jobs in June.

The officials also informed that more than 425 children have been rescued in the past six months with a staggering number in the last month alone. Also, the districts of Kamrup (metro), Barpeta and Dhubri top the list in terms of number of children rescued.

Mentioning that the number of child labourers has increased in the post-COVID period, they added that a pilot project will be prepared by the Commission in order to make the state completely free of child labour within 2025. They also mentioned that the Commission is facing a few problems, including the lack of an ample number of vehicles and labour officials, while adding that there are only 69 officers serving in the Commission as of now.
