30,000 Yaba tablets, ganja seized; 6 held in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Acting on credible information, a Crime Branch team along with the Officer in-Charge of Panbazar Police Station on Wednesday intercepted a huge consignment of 30,000 Yaba tablets at the Dighalipukhuri area here, which was en route to Mankachar-South Salmara from Moreh in Manipur.

Police sources said that five persons - Md Safique, Md Musharraf, Md Irfan Khan, Md Anowar Hussain and Md Amir Hussain - have been arrested for transporting the banned tablets.

A Scorpio (AS01DV1033) and a new Tata Harrier (without registration number) were also seized from the arrested persons, the sources said, adding that a case (163/2022 u/s 21(c) NDPS Act, 1985) has been registered in this connection.

Meanwhile, in another development on Wednesday, a team of the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) from the Gorchuk Police Station intercepted a Bolero (JH05BR2141) vehicle and seized 30 kg of ganja from it, while also arresting the driver, one Md Muktadul Amin of Mancachar.

Police sources said that the ganja was concealed in chambers built under the vehicle.
