35 security personnel committed suicide in Assam in 5 years

GUWAHATI: As many as 35 personnel of various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Assam Rifles and National Security Guard (NSG) committed suicide in Assam during the five-year period from 2017 and 2021.

This is the highest number of suicides in the North-East by Central armed personnel during the five-year period. Tripura is second with 27 suicides. On the other hand, Meghalaya registered nine suicides, Manipur eight, Mizoram five and Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland each registered two suicides.

Of the suicides registered in Assam, eight occurred in 2017, four in 2018, five in 2019, 11 in 2020 and seven in 2021.
