391 country boats fitted with marine engines: Chandra Mohan Patowary

GUWAHATI: The State Government has been installing marine engines in country boats under the 'Jeevan Dinga' scheme, the Assam Legislative Assembly was informed on Thursday.

Replying to a question from Ashraful Hussain of the AIUDF, Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary stated that so far 391 marine engines have been installed along with safety equipment under the scheme.

Over Rs 34.42 crore has been spent for the purpose, Patowary said.

The transport department is planning to install marine engines in 850 boats and the total cost of the project will be around Rs 101.67 crore.
