GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation's (GMC) personnel branch has ordered a suspension for all the 40 employees appointed illegally.

Notably, the appointment process took place during the tenure of former GMC commissioner Debajit Hazarika. However, the GMC or the government has not taken any action against the officers involved in the job scam.

Earlier, the prime accused in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash for job scam, Rakesh Paul, was granted bail by Gauhati High Court on July 22. Paul was granted bail in the case filed by the CID.

However, his name is yet to be cleared in the case filed at Bhangagarh police station. Earlier, a Special Judge Court has framed charges against 'disgraced' APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) Chairman Rakesh Paul under Section 7 and 13 (b) of Prevention of Corruption Act along with Section 420 of IPC in the case (27/2018) registered with the CID (Crime Investigation Department).

The complainant alleged that Paul had demanded Rs 10 lakh from him on the pretext of providing job. The complainant stated in the FIR that he had already given Rs 5 lakh as an advance payment to Paul.
