400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan at Gauhati University

GUWAHATI: A five-day long celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan is underway at Gauhati University (GU) from November 19 last.

The first day of the programme started with essay competition on Bir Lachit Barpukhan among the students of Gauhati University. In connection with the celebration, a cleanliness drive was carried out by the NSS volunteers on November 20 in the university campus. As a part of this grand celebration, a blood donation camp was held on Monday in the Students' Day Home where GU students , NSS volunteers, officials along with Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director of Students' Welfare, GU and Bikram Chetry, ADC, Kamrup (M) donated blood.

On the fourth day of the programme on Tuesday, speech and quiz competitions on Bir Lachit Barphukan will he held among the students of Gauhati University at the PD Seminar Hall.

Prof Paromita Das, Department of History, GU will deliver a talk on 'Life and History of Lachit Barphukan on November 23, the fifth and final day of the programme, stated a press release.
