GUWAHATI: A total length of 4.35 km of the Assam-Bangladesh border in Karimganj District is still lying open due to objections raised by the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh), revealed Atul Bora, Minister of Border Protection & Development Department in the Assam Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

The Minister's written reply came in response to a question from MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal of the Congress.

Stating that "the construction work of 4.35 km of single-row fence in the Karimganj area is still pending", Minister Bora added, "In the meeting of the '46th High Level Empowered Committee' held on July 30, 2019, an amount of Rs 4.77 crore was approved for technological solution for border domination at the Karimganj sector."

The Minister further stated, "But, as per reports received from BSF (Border Security Force) Cachar, it has been stated that the work in this area will be completed once objection of the BGB is resolved."
