GUWAHATI: Half of the wards under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, that is 30 out of 60 wards, have been reserved for women in the ensuing election to the biggest civic body of the State.

Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha informed the media on Thursday that of these 30 seats, two will be further reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates and two others for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.

The last date of filing of nomination papers will be March 30 (11 am to 3 pm). The last date of scrutiny of nomination papers will be April 1, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be April 4 (before 3 pm).

A total of 7,96,829 voters will exercise their franchise on EVM machines in 789 polling centres on April 19.

The ceiling of campaigning expenditure has been fixed at Rs 2.50 lakh.

Campaigning will be allowed from 6 am to 9 pm, Jha said. Recognized national political parties will be allowed 30 star campaigners, recognized State political parties will be allowed 25 star campaigners and registered unrecognized parties will be allowed 15 star campaigners.

No political party will be allowed to organize public meetings without prior permission of the civil and police administration.

An online portal to receive public complaints regarding violation of poll-related rules will be opened by Monday, the DC said.

Six AROs have been appointed to receive nomination papers.
