GUWAHATI: As many as 643 accidents took place in the state during the five days of the Durga Puja celebrations that started on October 1. It is almost 100 cases more than the number of accident cases in the previous year, data issued by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Ambulance Service said.
As per the data, The Kamrup district has registered the highest number of 75 accident cases, followed by Sonitpur with 53 cases, Nagaon with 46 cases, Udalguri with 40 cases, and Darrang with 33 cases.
On October 5, during the immersion of idols, the districts of Nagaon and Darrang recorded the highest number of road accidents with 15 registered cases, followed by Udalguri with 13 cases and Cachar district with 12 cases. Last year, the state registered a total of 541 road accidents during the Durga Puja festivity.
