Guwahati: The popular event, the North East Festival, that has been held at Indira Gandhi National Centre, Delhi for the Arts ever since its establishment seven years ago will be held in Guwahati this year.

The two-day festival will start on December 19 and would continue till December 20, 2020.

The event will be organized following all the Covid-19 protocols and guidelines with minimum human presence and broadcasted throughout the globe through digital platforms.

The North East Festival is an effort to showcase and increase awareness about the North East of India and to encourage entrepreneurship and tourism. One of the key goals of the festival is to attract tourists and investment and to establish optimistic vibration during these trying times.

"Due to the pandemic the key source of revenue and livelihood, tourism has been badly disrupted and everything has come to a standstill in Northeast. Thus development strategy for NE post-Covid 19 will be the focus of the festival. A recent NEF Ideation Conclave will have a series of discussion sessions," Shyamkanu Mahanta, Organiser- in-Chief of North East Festival said.

Success stories of North East Youth Session will highlight prominent personalities of the region such as Zubeen Garg, Hima Das, Riyan Parag Das, Anshu Jemsepa, Lansing Ming, Niti Deb, Armstrong Palme, and many others speaking about their journey.

A session Market connection on Agriculture will have farmers, producing companies of the Northeast region interacting with buyers from outside. A B2B Meeting will also be held where tourism stakeholders of the NE will interact with tour operators of the country.

The event will also have a session on Make in NE which will have prominent investors from NER such as Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), Patanjali, ITC, etc along with some Start-Ups will share their investment experience in the region.

A virtual tour through the North East Festival will take place at 4 pm, on both the days showcasing NE tourism destinations, festivals such as Hornbill, Tawang, Sangai, etc, and cuisines of the region, the dance style, and crafts.

The festival will also host several cultural programs, fashion shows, and musical concerts featuring Zubeen, in which his Soulmate band and other artists will perform.
