GUWAHATI: The three-day 9th edition of the North East Festival held at Radisson Blu here from January 7 ended on a high note on Sunday, stated a press release.

The festival's chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta promised that the next edition would be bigger and better.

It may be mentioned that the popular annual North East Festival in Delhi, which was supposed to be organised from January to January 9 at the Jawharlal Nehru Stadium, got cancelled and the organisers shifted to a smaller version in Guwahati on the same dates.

The programme content was created with limited audience and was digitally steamed. Olympic Bronze medal winner Lovlina Borgohain walked the ramp with Assamese traditional mekhela chador designed by Bidyut Rakesh and got rave reviews. Internationally acclaimed actor Adil Hussain was also there along with Lovlina to felicitate her and few others on their contributions towards the region. The festival was organised in the format of a carnival with live music and dance performances, engaging the visitors throughout the day in the open area while serious discussions on business, economic, socio-political issues of the region engrossed the intellectuals in the conference halls. The festival aimed at integrated marketing of the entire North-East to attract tourist and investments.

According to the organisers, only individuals that have proff of having received at least two COVID-19 vaccine jabs were allowed entry, while other guidelines such as masks, sanitisation and social distancing were enforced. For mass convenience, the festival was streamed live on the festival's Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The closing day was graced by Assam's Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, who interacted with entrepreneurs participating from across the North-East region.
