A Few Aspects of CBCS System will be Changed, Gauhati University VC tells SFI

GUWAHATI: Withdrawing the decision of students’ agitation at Gauhati University (GU), the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Assam State Committee celebrated their victory by organizing a students’ convention at Lakhidhar Bora Khetra on Friday.

Since the implementation of CBCS (Choice Base Credit System) at colleges, SFI, Assam State committee was demanding for a modification in the system by asking to look into different matters in this system including declaring results after 45 days of conducting examination, removing the three step system of re-evaluation, cancelling the system of marking on the basis of attendance, cancelling the condition of getting 25% for re-evaluating answer scripts and giving the opportunity to every students for rechecking and cancelling the CBCS system until the fulfillment of proper infrastructure and teacher.

SFI General Secretary Nirangkush Nath said, “The newly appointed vice chancellor of Guwahati University met with us for a discussion on August 28 and sent a written promise through the registrar by convincing us that the administration will look into the matters that we’ve highlighted and requested us to withdraw our agitation programme. The Guwahati University authority also promised to form a committee for examining and brining out a solution for the issues and demands that SFI has pointed out. The university authority also promised to make a one step re-scrutinizing system instead of the three step system. Besides this, the university administrative also promised to start a help line number for the students in order to deal with the issues of grading. So, it’s a victory for all the students that the University took our demands into serious consideration. Therefore we’re here to celebrate the victory of the students.”
