Guwahati: The Assam Congress would be starting a Smriti Shanti Sadbhavna Yatra to fulfill the last wishes of former Assam Chief Minister late Tarun Gogoi from December 9. Family members of the three-time Assam Chief Minister, Assam Congress's general secretary Jitendra Singh, Assam Congress president Ripun Bora and other senior Congress leaders would be part of the Yatra.

The yatra will start from Jorhat on Wednesday (December 9) and it will end at Guwahati on December 12. From Sadiya to Dhubri, from Dispur to Hailakandi, the journey will cover every district, Gaurav Gogoi, Lok Sabha MP from Kaliabor and son of Tarun Gogoi said addressing media in Guwahati.

"This is a yatra for peace, and to carry forward late Tarun Gogoi's aims and dreams for the coordination of Assam. The yatra is being held to let people of Assam once again know about the dreams and aspirations of the late leader, his thoughts, feelings, and what he wanted to do for the people of Assam," Gaurav Gogoi said.

On December 10 a shradhanjali (tribute) programme will be organized at Titabor, Jorhat after which the ashes of Gogoi will be immersed in the water at Sadiya.

He further stated that they have received over 2000 photographs from the public, some of them even they have not seen earlier. Gogoi thanked the public for this kind gesture.

An Instagram profile would be created in remembrance of Gogoi and will share all the memories of the veteran Congress leader in this account, Gogoi said adding that a memorial lecture would be organized in Guwahati on December 23 where a souvenir too would be released. December 23 would mark the completion of a month of the Peoples' Leader's demise.

The- three-time Assam CM passed away on Monday (November 23) at 05.34 pm in Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after fighting against Covid related ailments. And the last rites of the tallest Congress leader of Assam was performed on November 26 at the Navagraha crematorium in Guwahati.
