GUWAHATI: The All Guwahati Students’ Union has opposed the decision to shift the Gauhati High Court and other courts from their present location to a proposed location at Rongmahal, in North Guwahati. This decision to relocate the High Court is “outrageous” said the union and expressed resentment over it.
The union demanded that the decision to relocate the High Court as well as other courts be withdrawn, as they are the city’s pride.
The students’ union has shown complete support to the Gauhati High Court Bar Association, Gauhati High Court Senior Advocates, Guwahati Lawyers’ Association, and All Assam Lawyers’ Association, which have all expressed anguish and demanded the rollback of the decision.
In a joint statement issued by in-charge president of All Guwahati Students’ Union, Jiten Das and general secretary Pranjal Deka, they said, “AASU will never accept the government’s decision to shift the High Court and other courts to North Guwahati as the Gauhati High Court has a very rich history, so the state government should review the decision.”
