Abduction case: Three men in khaki among 4 arrested in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Two personnel from the Assam Police have again blotted the department's image with their involvement in an abduction case. The Crime Branch and Latasil Police are in a sorry state after rescuing abducted businessman Ajit Das from a hut at the Ghogua Hills of Morigaon district on Sunday night.

During the rescue operation, two personnel from the Assam Police, and a local from Ghogua Hills were arrested in connection to the abduction.

The arrested persons are — Constable of Fancy Bazar Outpost Ram Babu Singh, Home Guard of Jagiroad PS Suraj Pator, and local resident Maneswar Das.

In this connection, Jiten Bailung, a personnel of Forest Guard Battalion was also arrested on Monday.

According to a police source, the mastermind of the abduction is Singh Siddhu, who is absconding. The source added that the abductors demanded Rs 20 lakh from Das' family as ransom.

It is to be noted that, Das was abducted by a group of four persons from his house in the Kalibari area near Guwahati Railway Station on June 23. In this regard, a case (217/21 U/S 448/365/34 IPC) was registered by his family members at the Latasil Police Station.
