GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Higher Education has extended the dates of admission of the undergraduate programme for the third time. As per the new extension, the date of publication of the 1st merit list and the beginning of offline admissions from it has been set as July 11. Offline admissions for this list will close on July 13 and the 2nd merit list will be prepared on the next day and published on July 15 along with the beginning of the offline admissions for the same. It will come to an end on July 18 followed by the preparation of the 3rd merit list by the colleges and universities on July 19. It will be published on July 20 and offline admissions will start, which comes to an end on July 22. Spot admissions will take place on offline mode on July 23 and 24.

It may be mentioned that, a total of 240431 students passed the higher secondary examination conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council in the year 2023. But as per a notification published on June 27, only a limited number of students had applied for their admission in higher education through the Samarth Portal.

It also mentioned that for the ongoing UG admissions in the Assam Higher Education Admission portal, more than 1.6 lakh applications have been received till June 27. However, it was seen that 59 per cent of the total applicants have applied for only one program option, while 23 per cent have applied for only two programme options. The director of Higher education have already requested the college and universities to contact the applicants who have already applied in their institution and guide them to exercise maximum (10) options in selection of UG programmes offered by various Colleges/Universities or select maximum 10 UG programme options in the same college/university offering various UG programmes. They are also requested to disseminate the information that subject to vacancy of seats in Colleges/Universities. The students will be eligible for admission or be able to opt for change in their major, if required, during spot admission only if they have applied to that Institution before closure of the portal.
