GUWAHATI: "The Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (AFCSCL) has decided to procure 93,000 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy from farmers of the State. The department will also ensure that MSP (minimum support price) of Rs 1,885 per quintal is paid to the farmers," stated Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass while addressing a meeting here on Monday.
It is to be noted that, Rs 200 crore has been allocated in the State Budget 2021-22 to procure paddy from the farmers.
Dass held discussions with the department officials on the process to procure the paddy. During the meeting, it was decided that the paddy will be procured from October to December 2021.
The AFCSCL expects that around 21,500 farmers will be benefited from this initiative.
The paddy will be procured (in MT) from the following regions — Dhemaji (2000), Bihpuria (500), Moran (1,000), Titabar (1,000) , Golaghat (5,000), Barpathar (5,000) , Dokmoka (8,000) , Kaliabor (5,000), Raha (8,000), Borbheti (5,000), Kaki (8,000), Barpujia (8,000), Monuha (8,000), Mangaldai (5,000), Malaibari (3,000) , Dadara (8,000), and Pathsala (8,000).
In the meeting, former Central Minister Rajen Gohain took charge as the Chairman of AFCSCL.
