GUWAHATI: AGP president Atul Bora has asserted that the party still has its support base in as many as 85 Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in the State.

"There are 85 LACs from where the AGP won Assembly elections for several times since 1985. In a few of these constituencies the party's candidates emerged winner for seven consecutive terms. The base of the AGP is still deeply rooted in these constituencies. If the roots are nurtured in these LACs, the party can revive its winning prospects in elections. We have already started the process by organizing meetings and rallies in different constituencies," Bora told The Sentinel on Thursday.

Bora said the party's recent rallies in Naoboicha, Dhemaji, Chabua and Biswanath Chariali had received massive responses. He said such huge response is significant considering the fact that the AGP doesn't have sitting MLAs in Naoboicha, Dhemaji, Chabua and Biswanath Chariali constituencies. Such rallies and meetings will continue till the 2021 Assembly elections. The next rally will be held at Bokakhat in Golaghat district on December 6.

When asked about the Congress and AIUDF campaigning together for the BTC elections, Bora said the Congress has reached such a stage where it cannot even fight an election of an autonomous council on its own. He said the Congress and AIUDF have arrived at an understanding to contest the BTC elections together. "The people will reject this unholy alliance in the 2021 Assembly elections, let alone the BTC poll," Bora said.
