GUWAHATI: AIDUF's state president Badruddin Ajmal has been requesting the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal for the establishment of a Unani Medical College in the Dhubri district under AYUSH institutions since 2009. Besides raising the issue on the floor of Parliament, he wrote letters and met the then Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare who replied positively through his letter on December 27, 2012, but at the same time, he emphasized that the Centre could act on the request only after receiving the Detailed Project-Proposal Report (DPR) from the State Government.
However, he wrote to the Assam Government to send the proposal along with the DPR to the Centre in this regard and was informed that Assam Government sent the NOC to the Centre in 2013 and promised to provide land for the proposed Unani Medical College in Dhubri. It was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry. But there was no further progress regarding the matter. Ajmal requested AYUSH Minister to take up the matter seriously and asks the Assam Government to take initiative and prepare DPR in this regard.
