GUWAHATI, Sept 6: AIUDF MP from Barpeta Sirajuddin Ajmal on Wednesday called on Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum demanding a New National Highway covering areas like Goroimari (Daulasal), Barbhita, Bahari, Mandia, Morabhaj, Boroitoli, Moinbari, Chotala, Malegarh, Kabaitari (Junction point of NH 31 B) in three lower Assam districts.
Significantly, it was for the second time in one month that the Assam MP called on the Union Minister with the same set of demands. The earlier meeting took place on August 9 last.
The AIUDF MP briefed the Minister that the demand for the road is a long pending one of the people of the three districts of lower Assam. Gadkari was told that such a road would bring in benefits to the three districts, while giving a boost to socio-economic and agricultural development in the region. As per Ajmal’s version, during the earlier meeting with Union Minister Gadkari the latter told him that the matter would be taken up on receiving the Chief Minister’s nod.
