GUWAHATI: The AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) has welcomed the steps taken by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the development and empowerment of the indigenous Muslim community.

In a statement, AIUDF supremo and Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal said, "We appreciate the positive steps taken by CM Sarma to empower the Muslim community. The minority communities residing in Assam especially, the Muslim populace are lagging backwards." Ajmal reiterated that the areas with a Muslim populace are lagging in development.

"During the interaction with prominent personalities of the Islam religion, the CM was made aware of the problems faced by the community. To solve these problems, the CM has said that eight sub-groups will be formed with members from the indigenous Muslim community to suggest various developmental measures," said Ajmal.

The Dhubri MP said that he is hopeful that in the future, the CM will hold such discussions will representatives of various organizations of the community especially, from the Sar-Sapori areas.

"Only discussions will not solve our problems. The cm will have to implement the steps to develop the community. We hope that the initiatives taken by the government will be reflected in the forthcoming budget," Ajmal added.
