GUWAHATI: The All Assam Primary TET Qualified Teachers' Association has announced that its members would gherao the Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) directorate on March 24 if their long-pending demands are not redressed within March 22.

This decision has been conveyed to the State's Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, via a letter forwarded through the Director of SSA.

Talking to the media, the association's president Trailokya Deka said that they have been receiving salary as per Rule of Pay (ROP) since 2013. However, they have not received enhanced Dearness Allowance (DA) and arrear dues since 2019. They have also not received DA at the rate of 5 per cent for the last 30 months. Moreover, they have not received arrear DA at the rate of 11 per cent and 3 per cent till date, Deka said.

Deka reiterated their demand for abolition of the dual cadre system and regularization of their services, along with provision for facilitating bank loans, service book, death benefits to their next of kin, transfer facility, gratuity etc. He also demanded regularization of the services of TET teachers who are serving in various autonomous council areas covered by the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Deka mentioned that the State Education Minister had given an assurance during at meeting on March 11 that there would be good news for the 40,000 TET qualified teachers who are working under the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) as contractual teachers. According to the Deka, the Education Minister had mentioned issues such as release of arrear dearness allowance (DA) while referring to good news in the Budget. However, he said, these teachers have been virtually insulted as there is nothing for them in the Budget and they have become dejected.

"Since the Education Minister has not fulfilled his assurance, we have no other option but to resume our suspended agitational programme," Deka said.
