GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has lodged a complaint with the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) on the charge of "police atrocities" on peaceful protesters at Tezpur on January 22, 2021.

In a press release, AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "We met the AHRC Chairman today and filed the complaint along with photo and video graphic evidences of police atrocities. We've demAHRC, Tezpuranded a high-level inquiry into the incident and punishment to the guilty."

The incident happened during the student body's agitation on January 22, 2021 against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and demand for the cancellation of the EIA (Environment Impact Assessment), 2020. There were protests in every district in the State on that day. "However, the police swooped down on our activists at Tezpur," the AASU said in its release.
