GUWAHATI: The members of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) paid their homages to the martyrs who lost their lives in the food and economic movements. Gajen Ingti and Putul Saikia had been martyred on June 10, 1974, in their attempt to secure the future of the state.

AASU organized the event centrally in the playground of Chandrapur High School with a day-long schedule with the help of the All Kamrup (M) District Students Union. The in charge president, Utpal Sarma, hoisted the flag in the morning, while the general secretary, Shankarjyoti Baruah, paid due respect to the martyrs of the state. Chief advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya and advisor Prakash Chandra Das also presented garlands of flowers to the martyrs. This was followed by a public meeting chaired by Utpal Sharma.

Speaking on the occasion, the guests mentioned that the current government is trying to prevent the state from becoming self-reliant by presenting them as beneficiaries. They called for making the Assamese people owners and not beneficiaries in their own state and said that an economic revolution was necessary.

The speakers also raised their voices against the recent rise in the prices of essential items across the state and demanded that the same be brought under control immediately.
