All India Radio to air “Tracing Bapu’s Footsteps in Assam” today

GUWAHATI: All India Radio is broadcasting a special 30-minute feature in English on its national network at 10 pm on January 24 on Mahatma Gandhi’s visits to Assam to mark the year-long 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the Father of the Nation. The feature, titled “Tracing Bapu’s Footsteps in Assam” is produced by Ms Basudha Banerji, award-winning documentary producer with the AIR. Veteran Guwahati-based journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap is doing the research and script. A number of eminent personalities of Assam speak about various aspects of Gandhiji’s four visits to Assam. They include Dr Nagen Saikia, Prof Ranjit Kumar Dev Goswami, Prof Chandan Kumar Sharma, Minakshi Bhuyan, Rajlakshmi Sarma Goswami, Kusum Bora Mokashi, Jogen Chandra Bora, and Prof Amalendu Bhattacharjee. More importantly, while 88-year Emi Das recalls the three days she as a 12-year -old girl accompanied Gandhiji during his last visit to Assam, eminent singer 86-year-old Sudakshina Sarma recalls singing a song in Gandhiji’s presence, as also singing a song along with her brother Bhupen Hazarika over All lndia Radio Kolkata one day after he was assassinated in 1948. The feature will be available on AIR’s FM Rainbow network, Rajdhani Channel at Delhi, live streaming from AIR’ s website plus the mobile apps NEWSONAIR and ALL INDIA RADIO LIVE, a press release said.
