GUWAHATI: The All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU) has made it clear that it is going to start a series of agitations after the Bohag Bihu in support of their twin demands – according ST status to the community and formation of a separate Kamatapur State.

Addressing the media here on Saturday, AKRSU general secretary Dibyajyoti Kumar Deka appealed to Koch Rajbongshis to send only those leaders of parties who are committed to the demands of the Koch Rajbongshi community.

"The BJP came to power at the Centre and in the State, but there has been no change for our fate. Toeing the line of the Congress, the BJP government also kept the Bill of ST Status to the Koch Rajbongshis on tenterhooks by not tabling it in the Rajya Sabha. The BJP-led State government assured us that it would form a GoM (Group of Ministers) to frame the modalities for ST status and send it to the Centre afresh. However, that assurance has also proved to be a farce," Deka said.

The students' union has also raised the demand for disclosing the territory of the newly-formed Kamatapur Autonomous Council. They said that they won't sit idle till attaining the ST status.

Another general secretary of the students' body Sundhar Rai said, "We caution the government not to use the Koch-Rajbongshis as vote bank. We appeal to all political parties to disclose their stand on the ST status to the Koch Rajbongshis. If they don't, they will have to face the consequences."
