Amid Fear of Horse Trading, Congress Treasures its Candidates at Dichang Resort

GUWAHATI: After the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) now it's the Congress candidates in Assam who are delicately being isolated and kept at a resort at the outskirts of Guwahati in the context of being traded by the opposition party.

According to reports, at least 40 candidates of the party have already arrived at the Dichang Resort on Thursday morning.

Among those shifted to the Dichang Resort include Rupjyoti Kurmi, Wajed Ali Choudhuri, and Siddique Ahmed. On the other hand, senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia also arrived at the Dichang Resort.

If reports are believed to be true, Congress-led-Mahajot party, Bodoland People's Front (BPF), has shifted its candidates from Assam to an undisclosed country foreseeing poaching by the BJP.

Allegedly, the BPF candidates, along with 16 elected members of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), have gone to Bhutan or Singapore.

Earlier, with the fear of horse-trading, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) who have been safely stationed at a hotel in Jaipur flew back to Assam amid the coronavirus scare.

Around 17 candidates from the AIUDF party had been shifted to the Fairmont hotel in Jaipur and were expected to be in Jaipur till around May 2, when the results are scheduled to be declared. Meanwhile, expenses of their stay in Jaipur were solely borne by the Congress Party.

Sources revealed that the MLAs were concerned due to rising Covid cases.

As the counting is on May 2, so there was a concern that if the candidates contract Covid here, they might not be able to reach Assam for the counting and won't be able to keep an eye on the entire process and that it stays neutral.

Reportedly, the candidates made a brief halt at Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's residence here before proceeding to the airport.

Congress Chief Whip Mahesh Joshi also said that with the BJP government at the Centre, there is always a possibility of horse-trading.
