GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati today on a two-day visit to Assam and Meghalaya.

According to reports, the Union Minister is scheduled to launch the Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme for central paramilitary force personnel in Guwahati today.

Shah will be accompanied by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Later today, Shah is scheduled to chair the plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) to be held in Shillong.

However, on January 23 Amit Shah will return to Assam and attend a programme to celebrate the first anniversary of the signing of the Bodoland Territorial Region Accord.

It is to be mentioned that today PM Modi has reached Assam in Sibsagar district to distribute land allotment certificates under a state government programme to 1 lakh beneficiaries.

It is to be mentioned that ahead of the national leaders the All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Friday took out a march over their demands, including the scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Further, reacting to this, The police have detained several AASU activists from torchlight rallies across the state.

Earlier on January 22, at least 480 Self-Help Groups were distributed cheques under the Re-Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (Re-SVAYEM) scheme in Goalpara on Friday at the Natasurya Phani Sarma Bhavan.

To adopt the income-generating scheme, every individual beneficiary will receive Rs 50,000 each under this mega project launched in the State recently. Rihon Daimary, Assam Public Health Engineering (PHE) minister, attended the ceremonial distribution as the chief guest.

In his address, Daimary lauded the initiative taken by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to solve the unemployment problem through this scheme. He also encouraged the beneficiaries to become self-reliant through this government aid.

In Dibrugarh-

Redesigned Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (Re-SWAYAM), a flagship scheme of the State Government, was formally launched by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Jogen Mohan here on Friday at a function held at DHS Kanoi College Auditorium. The scheme is expected to benefit around 2 lakh youths in Assam with a cash amount of Rs. 50,000. All total 10,555 individuals will be benefited in Dibrugarh district by the scheme. MLAs Prasanta Phukan and Rituparna Baruah, Chakradhar Gogoi, vice-chairman of State Women Commission, Dr Hemaprova Borthakur, CEM of Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council, and other dignitaries were present at the meeting.
