GUWAHATI: Under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Guwahati is underway in collecting soils from various places of the city for the Amrit Kalash Yatra. Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) collected 60 pots filled with soil from 60 wards of GMC. A programme was organized in Latashil, where these 60 pots filled with soil were mixed and again filled in another two pots on Sunday.
In this programme, Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Mayor Mrigen Sarania, DC Pallab Gopal Jha, and several other dignitaries were present.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that the soil collected from across the state will be used in the foundation of Amrit Vatika to be built in New Delhi to honour the heroic deeds of those who made sacrifices in the freedom struggle and post-independence.
In his speech, District Commissioner Pallab Gopal Jha said that soil has been collected from various households across the state. He thanked the people for their support of the Amrit Kalash Yatra in the last few months.
After the meeting, the two pots were taken from Latashil Ground to the GMC office in Uzan Bazar.
The soil from the village panchayats under the Dimoria development zone was mixed in two brass pots in the presence of MP Queen Oja, Additional District Commissioner Ajit Kumar Sarma, and several other dignitaries. The soil will be brought to the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on October 25 from the municipal corporation and development block offices. After the state-level programme, the pots will be taken to New Delhi on October 27 for use in the construction of Amrit Vatika.
