GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has sought a response within four weeks from the State Government regarding the veracity of an allegation of anomalies in selection of teachers for primary schools in the State.
The court issued the notices while admitting for hearing a writ petition filed by some aggrieved candidates.
The petition alleged that glaring irregularities took place due to corruption in the selection process, which was done by the Elementary Education Department on the basis of an advertisement dated September 18, 2021.
According to the writ petition, some candidates were selected for appointment as primary school teachers even though they submitted dubious Diploma of Elementary Education (D El Ed) certificates. In this context, the petition alleged that some of the selected candidates passed their higher secondary examinations only in 2018, but submitted D El Ed certificates of 2019. The petition contended that this is impossible to complete the two-year D El Ed in one year and, as such, these candidates were selected on the basis of fraudulent certificates.
Moreover, the petition stated, representations made by the petitioners to the Elementary Education Department as well as the CID in this regard have failed to evoke any tangible response. As such, the petition requested the court to intervene in the matter and stop the selection of undeserving candidates at the expense of genuinely qualified candidates.
