GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora wrote a letter to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and suggested him a slew of measures which should be taken amid the lockdown.

He suggested CM Sonowal hold an all-party meeting through video conferencing to deal with the current situation which has arisen due to the outbreak of coronavirus. “The problem of corona cannot be tackled alone; thus, the Congress and all other political parties are with the government and everyone else should also cooperate”, Bora asserted.

“We are with the government to tackle the current situation. Till date, 25 people have been affected by COVID-19 and there is a possibility that the numbers might increase. The business and agriculture of the State have been hampered and the shortage of food has also hit the people,” he said.

“The lockdown period is underway; however, the relief schemes have not reached to all the needy people. Only 10 percent of the needy people have been benefited through these schemes so far. Thus, the government should speed up the distribution process so that more people can be benefitted,” the leader added.

Further, mentioning about loses faced by farmers due to the lockdown, he called the government to take immediate steps for the former’s relief. “There are not enough cold storage facilities in Assam. The farmers are incurring huge loses as they are not being able to store vegetables and fruits. Thus, the government should buy the stock from the farmers and sell it to the normal public”, said Bora.
