APCC stages 'Raj Bhawan Chalo' march against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification

GUWAHATI, March 25: The members of the Congress Party in the Assam State Assembly along with the senior members of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee staged a “Raj Bhawan Chalo” protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha on Saturday.

The protest march was scheduled to start from the MLA Hostel and proceed to the Raj Bhawan via the GS Road. But the police personnel stopped the protesters at Last Gate, Minister’s Colony and in the vicinity of the Janata Bhawan. They also took some of the protesters into custody, who were later released in Chachal. Also, MLAs Basanta Das, Shibamoni Bora and Balika Pegu were injured in the incident.

Several leaders of the Congress party including Debabrata Saikia, Rakibul Hussain, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Jakir Hussain Sikdar were present in the protest. Debabrata Saikia, the leader of the Opposition parties in the Assam Legislative Assembly said, “We strongly condemn the actions against Rahul Gandhi. He was not allowed to speak in the House by the BJP members.” The Congress members also engaged in anti-government sloganeering during the protest.
