Applying for holding number: Guwahati Municipal Corporation extends office timings

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has come to an understanding with the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), whereby the latter will include the holding number of the respective households in the electricity bills. This decision has been taken by the GMC to enable proper assessment of the property to ensure proper tax collection.

According to the understanding between the GMC and APDCL, the latter will not accept the electricity bills of consumers unless they merge their holding numbers with their electricity bills. The last date for this process was September 30, 2022 but now it has been extended to October 31.

There are around 4 lakh consumers under APDCL in Guwahati but only 2.5 lakh consumers have holding numbers. After the APDCL issued a notice to its consumers to merge their holding numbers with their electricity bills, long queues have been seen in the GMC office. People have been making rounds of the GMC office to get their holding numbers. The holding number is an identification number issued and assigned to a property based on the type of property and ownership details. The GMC collects property tax based on the identification number.

The GMC authority has now decided to extend the office timings from 9 am to 6 pm at all the zones under GMC for some days. The public can apply for allotment of new holding number against their properties as well as for re-assessment of properties. The GMC authority has also made public some contact numbers for each zone. There are six zones under GMC. The central zone office is in Fancy Bazar's fruit market. The contact numbers are 7399318000 and 9864857739. Residents of Athgaon, Tokobari, Rehabari, Srimantapur, Bishnupur etc. will come under the central zone.

The Dispur zone office is in Dispur Supermarket. The contact numbers are 9854461702 and 9101297623. Residents of Hatigaon, Beltola, Sixmile, Kahilipara, Ganeshguri etc. will come under the Dispur zone.

The east zone office is in Zoo Road. The contact numbers are 7002070602 and 7002842887. Residents of Noonmati, Narengi, Zoo Road, Chandmari, Japorigog etc. will come under the east zone.

The Lokhra zone office is in Basistha Chariali. The contact numbers are 6000130982 and 6900330779. Residents of Odalbakra, Lal Ganesh, Saukuchi, Gorchuk, Kotahbari etc. will come under the Lokhra zone.

The south zone office is in South Sarania near the ISKCON Temple. The contact numbers are 9101309627 and 8724971281. Residents of Pub Sarania, Gandhibasti, Kharguli, Uzanbazar, Ulubari, Fancy Bazar will come under the south zone.

The west zone office is in Bhootnath. The contact numbers are 7896571079 and 9085322843. Residents of Jalukbari, Khanamukh, Kumarpara, Shantipur, Maligaon etc. will come under the west zone.
