GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway authority has assured the Assam Rail Passenger Association (ARPA) that the their grievances, including resumption of suspended train services in the State, would be looked into for redress.

According to ARPA general secretary Dipankar Sarma, this assurance was given at a recent meeting by the General Manager (GM) of NF Railway, Maligaon.

Sarma said, "Many trains operating to and from Assam were suspended at the time of the first Covid-related lockdown. Although operation of many trains was later restored, 12 train services remain suspended even now. Moreover, many route stoppages have been withdrawn even in the case of train services which have resumed."

The ARPA is demanding resumption of these 12 train services along with restoration of earlier stoppages in the case of operational trains in the State, he said.

Sarma said they are also seeking change in the timings of the Siphung and Dekargaon Inter-city train, along with a train service between Lower Assam and Silchar in the Barak Valley. Further, they are demanding restoration of the Guwahati-Rangia-New Bongaigaon and Alipur-Kamakhya inter-city trains, along with a new train in the Sorbhog-Guwahati-Nagaon route.

He said that the ARPA held discussions with the Principal Chief Commercial Manager and Principal Chief Operations Manager of NF Railway as well and requested that sub-urban train services should be introduced in Assam, as is being done in other towns of the country.
