GUWAHATI: The Housing and Urban Affairs Minister of Assam, Ashok Singhal, conducted an inspection on the ongoing construction of the guard wall along both sides of the Bharalu River at Anil Nagar and the area near Big Bazar on Sunday. Also, they checked the cracks that emerged on the old guard wall at the same location.
Talking to the media, Ashok Singhal said, “Almost 60 percent of the wall was built, but due to the weather, 40 percent of the work had to be halted. After the monsoon, we will complete the later work. I was more worried for the sluice gate area, as if this got damaged, then water would have flowed to Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar. As Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar are low-lying areas, they are more prone to floods and get easily filled with water. I have instructed the concerned officials to take immediate note of the issue and initiate necessary actions for the repair of the guard wall.”
During the inspection, GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania and Deputy Mayor Smita Roy were also present.
