GUWAHATI: The residents of Guwahati can never forget the horrors that unfolded in the city 15 years ago, that is, on October 30, 2008. Several bombs went off in multiple busy locations in the city, killing several people and injuring many others.

Like every year after the incident, this year too, the district administration of the Kamrup (M) district organized an event in remembrance of those who were killed in the Guwahati bomb blasts. The event was organized at the memorial for the blast victims created in the Ganeshguri area.

Apart from some of the people injured in the blasts and family members of some of the people who died in these blasts, some representatives of the government also took part in the event. Assam Cabinet Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, MLA representing the Dispur Constituency, Atul Bora, and Additional Chief Secretary Ashish Kumar Bhutani were among those attending the event.

The attendees offered floral tributes as well as lit lamps in remembrance of those lost in these terror activities. An all-religion prayer meeting was also organised as a part of the remembrance event. While remembering the incidents of that fateful day, the attendees strongly condemned the people involved and their actions.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also offered his condolences over the social media site X, where he wrote, “October 30, 2008, is a dark day in the history of Assam. Many innocent people who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on that day. Our brothers and sisters were forever disabled. I pay tribute to everyone who lost their lives untimely on that cursed day and extend my deepest condolences to everyone who was injured. We must continue to fight terrorism in unity to build a developed Assam full of peace and harmony. Our government is always committed to playing an active role in this regard.”
