Assam, Bangladesh to boost their respective film industries by co-produce bilingual films

GUWAHATI: Bangladesh and Assam are planning to join hands to boost their respective film industries by co-producing bilingual films. This was initiated by the Industries and Trade Fair Association of Assam (ITFAA) during a meeting with Bangladesh High Commissioner Md. Mustafizur Rahman on Tuesday in Guwahati.

ITFAA Vice President Rajesh Das informed that a business delegation comprising leading businessman Dr. Sanjiv Narayan, ITFAA Secretary Rajeev Das, fashion designer Meghna, hotelier Manoj Kumar Kalita, Mit Das, and Praveen Thakur held a high-level meeting with senior diplomats of the Bangladesh government. A memorandum was submitted to the High Commissioner, requesting a few measures to strengthen and develop the bilateral relationship between Northeast India and Bangladesh.

ITFAA also suggested that a monthly show at the Dawki-Tamabil Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya be organized, drawing inspiration from the renowned flag ceremony at the Attari-Wagah Indo-Pak border. This show will aim to showcase cultural performances and trade exhibitions, providing an avenue for individuals from both countries to display their cultural heritage and stimulate trade opportunities. The memorandum also called for improved connectivity between both countries. In this regard, the ITFAA delegation proposed hopping flights connecting Guwahati with Dhaka and the introduction of smaller flights between both cities. The meeting also decided to promote the socio-cultural practices of both countries by organising periodic food festivals and cultural shows, including fashion shows, in the major cities of both countries. It may be mentioned that an ITFAA delegation led by Rajesh Das and Rajeev Das in 2014 submitted a memorandum to Tofail Ahmed, the then Commerce Minister of Bangladesh, to open a Deputy High Commissioner office in Guwahati, and today an Assistant High Commissioner office is fully operating in Guwahati, catering to the needs of Northeastern people. The high-level meeting at the chamber of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner was also attended by Ruhul Amin, Assistant High Commissioner, and Dr. A.K.M. Atiqul Haque, Minister (Commerce), stated a press release.
