GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the progress and safety of the construction work of the flyovers at AT Road in Maligaon and RG Baruah Road with the senior officers of the PWD at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday. Expressing his disapproval at the accident that took place where a shutter plate from the under-construction flyover at A.T. Road fell, injuring two people, Chief Minister Sarma asked the PWD engineers, including the engineers of the construction companies, to take adequate care to avert a recurrence of such an incident.

He also asked the executing agency to adopt safety measures during the construction of the remaining parts of the flyovers. He at the same time asked the concerned authority to make sure that no heavy vehicles ply on the stretch of the AT Road from Jalukbari to Bharalumukh and vice versa. The Chief Minister also said that until June 20, one side of the AT Road where the flyover is being constructed should be closed to traffic at night. He also asked the construction company to adopt more safety measures like providing helmets, jackets, etc. for the workers engaged in construction.

The CM had assured the people that the target time for the completion of the flyovers at the AT Road and RG Baruah Road would be July 31 and August 31, respectively. Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Samir Kumar Sinha, Commissioner Special Secretary PWD (R) Chandan Sarma, Police Commissioner Guwahati City Diganta Barah, DC Kamrup (M) Pallav Gopal Jha, and other senior officers were present at the meeting, stated a press release.
