GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid homage to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the great freedom fighter and revolutionary during the struggle for independence, to mark his 127th birth anniversary on January 23.

Assam CM paid homage at an event conducted jointly by the Department of Youth and Family Welfare, Government of Assam, and All Assam Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee at Guwahati's Netaji Chowk.

While addressing a gathering marking the occasion of Parakram Diwas, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma called the freedom fighter a 'fearless nationalist' who prepared revolutionaries to serve as a call to arms against British Raj from all corners of India to create the Indian National Army.

The Chief Minister honoured the contributions of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the Indian Freedom Struggle, which ushered the country to move towards attaining its independence from British Rule. Assam CM further tweeted that the ideals of patriotism instilled by the great freedom fighter will inspire the country's future generation.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary is acknowledged as Parakram Diwas on January 23. In 2021, the Indian Government announced Netaji's birthday ceremony as Parakram Diwas as a tribute to India's legendary freedom fighter's altruistic contribution to making India independent. The objective of Parakram Diwas is to inculcate patriotism in Indian citizens, especially the youth, and to inspire each one to serve their country for the right causes and act courageously during hardships.
